Tai Chi Arts

Both western and eastern medicine are proving the health benefits of Tai Chi practice. As an internal martial art, Tai Chi was originally based on the insight that we must first make the body healthy before making it strong. Here are just a few of the benefits of long-term practice:

  • Correctly aligning the body
  • Improving flow of blood (regulating blood pressure)
  • Improving cardiac function
  • Improving balance and functional flexibility
  • Strengthening of joints, bones and connective tissues (can dramatically improve symptoms of arthritis)
  • Improving respiratory function
  • Circulating and cultivating Qi
  • Developing peace of mind and emotional stability

Remember: Benefits are about you and your practice. There are no magic pills. The more skill and experience you develop with Tai Chi and Qigong, the more health and well-being will flow to you and through you. The real benefit is the skill you cultivate for yourself to keep regulating, adjusting and balancing the body system.

BENEFITS OF TAI CHI

If you are new to Tai Chi, I want to share with you a more personal perspective about the value of learning Tai Chi. I have observed closely the increasing levels of tension, stress, anxiety and desperation in ever increasing numbers of people. It is as though our lives are becoming harder to cope with and the speed of change so swift and, seemingly, arbitrary that we find ourselves continually reacting rather than responding to life.

Why Learn Tai Chi?

A  Personal Perspective

I have had the privilege and good fortune to study with some of the top Tai Chi masters in the world, and I know it can help with this situation - indeed it can transform our lives in ways we might not think possible. But instead of trying to convince you of this grand claim, I'd rather share with you what Tai Chi means to me, and what it has done for me and many of my students over decades of practice:

  • It contains powerful methods for accessing, integrating and aligning the body
  • It can ground the mind in the body and its energies allowing us to be present in this moment
  • It reveals and dissolves "tension zones" in our bodies and helps heal underlying traumas
  • It can help us come into a more natural harmony with ourselves and our environment
  • It can help us develop power, endurance and longevity

For myself, I was first attracted to Tai Chi purely because of the beauty and joyful flow of its movements;  but over time, with effort and practice, I found it healed my injuries, improved my breathing, calmed me down, woke me up, and gave me a direction and focus in my life. And this is to say nothing about Tai Chi as a martial art - a subject which requires a whole separate entry!

So, do I think Tai Chi can help?  The simple answer is yes. It works if you work it and work at it. In fact, just like it did for me, it can do far more than is dreamt of in your philosophy... you might be pleasantly surprised at the results.

I look forward to the chance of seeing you at one of our upcoming classes.

All the best,

Travis Crombie
