A Three Thousand Year History
One of the oldest texts in the Chinese medical tradition is the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine. It states, in its pages, the essence of Preventitive medicine:
"In the days of old, the sages treated disease by preventing illness before it began... Treating an illness after it has begun is like suppressing revolt after it has broken out. If someone digs a well when thirsty, or forges weapons after the battle begins, are not these actions too late?"
Some of the oldest Qi Gong forms that have come down to us, stretch back at least into the Han Dynasty (such as Five Animals Frolic) - and thus have proved to be of sustained benefit to human health.
The root and essence of all these practices is known in Chinese as:
Yang Sheng Ji Dao養生之道 - the way (path) of cultivating life.
Yang Sheng is based on the premise that we have the in-born ability to take charge of the direction of our own lives, and that health emerges out of balancing the deep energetic equilibriums within nature and our bodies in ways that are potentially accessible to us all.
Yang Sheng is the way of nourishing/nurturing life.
Principles of Health and Well-Being, Secrets to Long Life:
Traditional wisdom teaches we are self-regulating organisms. And therefore the power to heal comes from within. This doesn't mean we don't need help at times, especially if we've chosen to ignore the feedback our bodies are constantly giving us, but the success of any treatment modality comes from us: our acceptance of the validity of a procedure, our willingness to participate in our own healing, even trusting an inner "knowing" about whether a treatment is right for us.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), took this a step further: "The good doctor teaches people to heal themselves." And thus, all the common practices associated with TCM - herbs, acupuncture, massage, etc - can in theory be practiced on your own, for the health of you and your family.
Truly, the physician was meant not just to help you heal, but to teach you about health...
These are what we call Longevity Techniques
